HOW TO OVERCOME THE CRIPPLING FEAR OF FLYING


I love the above quote from Jack Canfield. What it implies is straight forward and simple yet difficult to fully comprehend. But within it ,is the motivation to face your fears. This is easier said than done, I know. But it is worth every effort as fear is standing between you and everything you want.

WHAT IS FEAR?

To overcome any challenge, you need to first understand what you are up against. This is more so with fear. Fear is a natural phenomenon caused by any perceived threat to our survival. Basically, this is meant for our protection and well being.

When a threat is discerned, our body is filled adreline and we then automatically either fight or flee. This is good. There are recorded incidents where people achieved unthinkable physical feats when called upon by the situation. With the situation life threatening,the fight or flight reaction would ensure that we have the best possible chance of survival.

FEAR GONE WRONG

With all the good things just mentioned about fear, why the negativity surrounding it? Well, like anything else, fear can be misunderstood and misused. Or maybe I should say how fear can misuse us?

Fear can be crippling at the best of times. It can stop you dead on our tracks.It can rob you of your dream life. Honestly, fear can turn your life around and not in a good way. So, what do you do then?

3 STEPS TO OVERCOMING FEAR OF FLYING

1.  Get to grips with your fear. Really understand what you are afraid of.In most cases, you will find out that your fear is totally baseless. The bottom line is that we have very little to be afraid, if any at all. Ask yourself "What is the worst thing that can happen"?

2.  Set yourself specific mini goals. Let's say,you are afraid of flying and have decided to try overcoming this. You will need to start small since trying to just do it, will can have counter productive results. And you don not want that. Start small and work yourself to your  goal of overcoming your fear of flying.

3.  Use you gift of imagination. See yourself actually boarding that plane, sitting down comfortably. Everything around is all perfect, the people, weather, smells, everything. Then proceed to the actual take off and the eventual landing. You feel all warm and fuzzy and have never felt more content.

This little imaginative exercise serves as a motivator. It will motivate you to persist and overcome the many obstacles along the way. After all is said and done, overcoming your fear of flying is well within your reach.
