HOW YOUR BELIEFS ARE DESTROYING YOUR LIFE
This article has the potential to change your life, if internalized and implemented. This is as serious as you get. Believe me when I
say this.
We are going to explore the very important subject of BELIEFS. Yes, beliefs.
Beliefs can
change your life positively or negatively. You see, choosing and accepting
wrong beliefs will definitely destroy any chance of success.
The opposite is also true. Correct beliefs will actually
accelerate your success rate. This is true. Extensive research has been done
around this topic. Secondly, “success experts” of all shapes, sizes and origins
agree on this.
Ineffective
Use of Beliefs
There’s no single living individual who does not have
beliefs by which his/her life is led. All of us have beliefs. And these
determine the quality of our lives.
Unfortunately, most people blindly accept erroneous
beliefs. This is evident everywhere. You see this in how people choose to
handle their money matters, love lives, child rearing, success, overcoming
difficulties etc.
Most people believe success is meant for other people and
not them. They believe they have to work hard in order to succeed financially.
They believe they are not meant for fulfilling love lives. They believe all
this nonsense. What is more tragic is that they believe there’s nothing they
can do about it.
Why
Beliefs are so Powerful.
Let me state the obvious i.e. beliefs are incredibly
powerful. But what may not be as obvious might be the reason for it. Why are
beliefs so powerful? This, I will attempt to answer in lay man’s terms.
Daily we are confronted with situations where decisions
must be made. Some are more pressing than others. Some require instant intervention.
Nonetheless we are faced with decision making daily.
Now, we do not have the time or inclination to analyse each
and every situation in order to come up with the best solution every time. We
simply do not have such a luxury. Most of the time we assume certain things.
And based on our assumptions, we respond accordingly.
Allow me to illustrate. Let’s say you “know” that you are
not that good looking. You “know” that your chances of getting a date are very
slim. This “knowledge” has served you well over the years because it has saved
you a lot of heartache. So, you are comfortable with it and have accepted it.
Now, with the preceding premise in mind, how are your chances
of actually approaching a beautiful lady and asking her out? And more to the
point, what are your chances of a satisfying love life?
Do you see how erroneous beliefs can rob you of real
life? And remember, this happens on a subconscious level. Once accepted here,
it becomes a mission to change it. It can be changed but it is incredibly
difficult.
How
to Choose Correct Beliefs
Having seen how powerful beliefs are, you no doubt want
to choose correct ones. But how can you go about doing this? Let’s explore this
further, shall we?
1
The Foundation
The Foundation
Like a house, you need a foundation. A launch pad of some
sorts, if you will. This is absolutely crucial. Remember how we decide? We
decide based on certain assumptions. These assumptions are informed by our
foundations
Foundations, in this context, mean principles or values
which govern our lives. The type of principles you adopt will inform the type
of decisions you make daily. And the type of decisions you make will determine
the type of life you lead.
So, lay a proper foundation.
Start Small
You do not have to do everything at once. You do not even
have to aspire for lofty goals, at least not at the beginning. You’d be setting
yourself for failure, if you do. And you could be reinforcing incorrect
beliefs, which you are trying to get rid of.
What you should be focusing on is what I call progressive
goal setting. What you go after is achieving small goals before attempting
bigger ones. For instance, if you aim at being a millionaire, you start by
setting your sight at being a “hundredaire”, then a “thousandaire” and so on.
With this method, it becomes apparent that your dreams
can actually materialize. And you’d celebrating mini-victories along the way
which is important because it’ll sweeten the journey towards your goals.
CONCLUSION
Having a look at your beliefs will absolutely benefit
you. As previously stated, beliefs are very powerful. And if you want to
improve the quality of your life, you have to explore your beliefs.
Change your beliefs and change your life.
